Dear Friends
Here is an update on the work in East Africa:
In view of world events unfolding in China, Burma, Zimbabwe and many other lands,
my heart bleeds for the suffering people and my prayer is, "Even so, come, Lord
Jesus!" Only His return will solve this world's problems and establish justice and
peace on earth.
The African Advisory Committee meet every two months and keep Assembly Aid
Abroad Inc. informed of needs and developments in all areas of the ministry. They
are distributing food to needy believers from gifts we have received to support the
suffering saints. $12,000 was sent in March following on from emergency support
sent in January in the middle of the tribal wars. More is about to be sent, and this
should help until harvest in August. Our thanks for your generous help. Peterson
Otieno sends regular financial reports on all gifts sent.
Food prices have risen, and widows and orphans are suffering. Now that our
workers are able to again travel, we hope soon to have reports from areas
previously off-limits because of the violence. The work overall is being blessed and
we have only seen the beginning of the potential growth. From small beginnings in
2000, we now have 17 African workers partly or fully supported, and two Indian
families living in Nairobi. Working with Kenyan brothers, they have started new
churches in a number of far flung places.
Kenya Visit 2008. Tribal ethnic cleansing displaced many and I have been advised
that it is now safe to again visit. Paul Lauridsen (from Babinda, Queensland) will
accompany me. We are booked to leave on July 8th. Our wives (both are called
Elaine) are booked to join us arriving in Kenya August 1st. For years the believers
in Kenya have asked for my wife to visit so please pray especially for safety for us
all.
The first three weeks Paul and I will visit isolated churches along the Uganda
border, east of Lake Victoria, and points between. The Rongo Elders Conference in
the south west is planned for August 5 to 10, the Kopanga Conference from August
14 to 17. Elaine and I plan to visit the three assemblies in Doha (Qatar) on our way
home.
Daniel Ochieng reports: The rain is not so promising in most areas it had rained a
lot earlier, and now when we need it more it is reducing, some areas like Sindo,
Kopanga and Home Bay might be affected more or in the same way like other
areas, those who had planted millet and cassarve in this areas might fare better
than those who had maise. The famine is looming, the cost of food is going up
everyday (maise has more than doubled in price and poor people are now going
hungry on much less food), pray with us . Thanks for your love and prayers. Yours
in Christ Love Daniel
William Akoto plans to follow up on believers from the Naivasha church that was
devastated in January, with believers killed and the rest scattered. He hopes to see
three new churches commenced from these contacts.
James Omwando is this week visiting an isolated area (east of Nairobi) following up
on contacts who have fled Kapenguria where Amos and others were killed in
January. I have recently received e-mails from Lucas, saying there are still eight
believers and some youths meeting near Kapenguria. James will also need to visit
these to see first hand the real situation, and also he needs to visit the ten converts
who came to the Lord in Uganda in December last year when he and Amos
preached there. He writes: "Greetings in Jesus name. Please uncle, our milking cow
is very sick, have called for a veterinary officer to treat her so kindly assist us with
5.000/-; also Joshua Seroi has called me for a Seminar at the new Maasai church
for a week, so can u help me 3000/- for this occasion. The poshomill (for milling
maize grain) is not working and have called for the supplier and he says he will
change the whole thing. Pass our regards to everyone there and we are praying for
you. We all fine except the child of Rose is dead. Please pray for me as I have a big
burden in my family.Yours JAMES"
Penuel Okengo reports on the Rianyachwaya NT Church: "The work of God is
getting on well. We did a Seminar the month of April 9-14, 2008 and we saw the
hand of God working. 17 people got saved. Last month we did a Seminar with
people from different parts of Africa. Glory to God because of His mighty hand
working. We thank the AAA committee of Australia for supporting us in order to
reach the lost souls and bring them to the Lord. We are praying for your journey
here Kenya this year. Warmest greetings to you all."
These letters give an insight into everyday living for these servants of the Lord, so
please continue to pray. They live in situations and under conditions we have little
or no experience of.
Warmest greetings, on behalf of the AAA Inc. Management Committee,
Albert Fairweather.
